Feeling Overwhelmed? Here’s the Exact Message That Grounded Me
Share
This week, I was spiraling.
The weight of the world, the relentless news cycle, the feeling that no matter how much I care, it’s never enough to stop it—all hit at once.
So, I did what I’ve trained myself to do these last 17 months when the overwhelm creeps in: I moved my body.
I was sure working out would help. All the wellness and wellbeing gurus say so.
I was surprised when it didn’t.
"It must be that heavy…" I thought.
I’ve carried that weight before. For the first time last year—1.5 years postpartum, years into my life abroad feeling just as lonely as the first, and witnessing (for the first time) the horrors this world is actually capable of. So, in my panic—fearing this familiar feeling creeping back in—I decided to do something different.
Not groundbreaking, not radical.
I mean, the gurus suggest this too.
But in the context of my own Self-Care Toolbox? This option tends to sit at the very bottom.
Until this week.

The Simple Shift That Reconnected Me
After two failed workouts (one literally ending in a near asthma attack—hello mid-thirties, amiright?), I decided to expedite my process and reach out to a friend.
She sent one message.
A single message that instantly reeled me back into my body in the most unexpected way:
“I see you, my dear. I know this is a lot and I wish I could tell you something that would change this, but it won't. So I guess the only thing we can do is our (p)art and it doesn't have to change the world at once. One step at a time. ❤️🩹”
She used my own words against me.
MY OWN MISSION STATEMENT.
It really could not have been lost on me that the very foundation of my brand — by SMP—was used to remind me of what I already know.
What in the inception…
The gag is? It worked.

We’re All Just Trying to Do Our (p)art—And It Matters
At its core, by SMP is a space where lifestyle, art, and travel intersect to create deeper connection—helping us ground ourselves in creativity, culture, and meaning.
It’s about connection.
To Self.
To one another.
To humanity.
A space that speaks your language.
Understands your heart.
And grounds you.
Or maybe it’s just me.
All I know is that my messaging, my mission, my purpose—worked.
And that means I can’t quit.
I know we are all just trying to do our (p)art.
And even when (not if) our respective part feels minor to us, we have to remind each other that together, it will make a difference.
So today, I just wanted to send you the same friendly reminder that grounded me: Your part matters.
Keep going.
